What is the inspiration behind your store?

I have always had some form of vintage in my life. Growing up, I spent summers with my grandparents selling wares at the Trufant flea market in small-town Michigan. My grandpa was a fix-it man who sold refurbished TVs, radios, and spare parts. My grandma sold vintage costume jewelry in the booth next to his. I looked up to both of my grandparents for running their own business and their ability to turn something old and broken into something functional and beautiful.

From the owner, Rebekka Adams, "I’ve been selling vintage jewelry since I was a tot in the 1980s with my grandmother at markets, so you can say its in my blood.” She managed the number one volume Claire’s Accessories store in the 1990s-2000s so she can easily tell you contemporary jewelry from vintage. Additionally, she have worked in fine jewelry, as a Certified Diamontologist and Gemologist. “My favorite fine jewelry experience was when I lived in Cairns, North Queensland, Australia, at JJ Opals. I purchased directly from miners who brought in some of the rarest black and Boulder Opals in the world.”

Nowadays, Rebekka sources out a mixture of some of the rarest and coolest costume pieces from across the US, and sometimes abroad. Her personal collections consist of Whiting and Davis and Monet from the 1960s and 1970s. You can find these brands, alongside YSL, Givenchy, Trifari, Miriam Haskell, and more accessible collections from Avon and Sarah Coventry, and everything in between. There’s even a really great collection of gold fill necklaces and rings from the 1900s-1940s.

In addition to working with my grandparents, my mother instilled the values of recycling in me from an early age. Due to financial necessity and a desire to be unique, I was an avid thrifter all through my teens and twenties. I love the hunt for something discarded and giving it new life. All of these experiences have led me to opening Devil’s Details Boutique. This shop has been a metamorphosis that has come full circle. For ten years, we focused on vintage clothing under the brand Bloomers and Frocks, but updated the shop in 2024 to reflect our passion for vintage jewelry and accessories because at the end of the day, style always includes accessorizing your outfit. The devil is in the details.

Any words of advice regarding vintage?
Vintage is one way to express your individuality, and I think it is more important to find a modern fit for vintage in your life than to be historically accurate. If you are a beginner to shopping for vintage, we have great blogs on brands and the history of vintage jewelry. Whatever you do, have fun with it. Life is too short to take fashion too seriously. Wear what makes you smile.
